Animal Care is a small animal medical and surgical practice focusing on dogs and cats. Dr. Cooke and Dr. Carlson ensure that you and your pet will always receive personalized care from a doctor that is familiar with your case and history. Along with routine medical care and surgical procedures, Animal Care also provides exceptional boarding services for dogs and cats.
Our History
Originally founded as Fairlawn Animal Hospital in the 1950’s, Dr. Kenneth Carlson began operating the practice as Animal Care in 1973. He has been providing exemplary services to small animals and their families on the North Shore for over thirty years. Dr. Megan Cooke acquired ownership in summer 2016 and continues to focus maintaining relationships and practicing high-quality medicine.
Our Staff
Dr. Megan Cooke, DVM
Originally a native of Long Island, NY, Dr. Megan Cooke graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Plattsburgh State University of New York, summa cum laude. She completed her veterinary education at the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and currently lives in Ipswich, MA, with her husband, Jared, and their two dogs Hildi and Jules. In her leisure time, she enjoys hiking with her dogs, paddle boarding, cooking, and traveling.
Dr. Kenneth Carlson, DVM (Retired)
Dr. Kenneth Carlson, the founder of Animal Care began working for a veterinarian at the age of 16, the culmination of a lifelong love of animals. As a student, he completed his undergraduate at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and finished his veterinary schooling at Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He now enjoys the retired life of traveling and photography with his wife Cotton and dog Chase.
